A Windows Fanatic

apple bites

You’re reading well… this time there’s no Apple zealot here, but good-old-healthy Windows fanaticism.
Let’s explain. Apple Mac Mini is sold out almost everywhere. It’s a cheap computer, a Troy horse made-in-Apple, to show to the ignorant user (the one that can’t program his VCR) that you can do everything you’re used to do in Windows also with an Apple. Of course, it supports the sales of the iPod too. Basically it’s a good marketing move… but somebody doesn’t think it like that. Let’s see why.

First of all, I have to add: me (Apple enthousiast) I’ll never buy the Mac Mini. Simply ’cause I don’t need it. And if I would (and could), I would go for a more pro machine.
But, there’s a review online (here) that made me laugh, a lot, and I want to share the link with you all, and especially with Windows users. Then, we can comment together on Albazilla if you feel like.

This ‘journalist’ (or better, the Chief Software Reviewer at Divisiontwo.com’s Technology Insider) lacks of basic IT information. He’s still living in the 15th century, and I guess he still doesn’t want to be taken in pictures, because he’s afraid you’ll still his soul.
After reading his article, I’ve got the following conclusions. For him, Mini Mac is not a good deal because:

- it doesn’t have a parallel port (huh? what for? every printer is USB nowadays…)
- it doesn’t have a ps/2 port (for a ps/2 mouse? the ones that still have a ball? they still sell them?)
- it doesn’t have a keyboard or a mouse (oh, yeah, the cheap 15$ dell ones…)
- it doesn’t have a serial port (enumerate the devices one can connect through a serial port. I see only the 56k modem, but that’s integrated)

But still, all this can be discussed.
It’s only approaching to the end, when he declares astonished: “here is no antivirus program shipped with the Mac. In today’s climate of non-stop worms, trojans and viruses, releasing a computer with no virus removal software is irresponsible on the part of Apple”. But the best comes later: “When I consider that a good deal of my time is spent running applications like Disk Defragmenter, Scandisk, Norton AV, Windows Update and Ad-Aware–none of which are available for the Mac platform–it doesn’t make sense for me to “switch” to a Mac at this time.”.

That’s great, isn’t it? Since he’s spending most of his time getting Windows to work, he pretends, no, he wants to spend (or lose?) the same time on a Mac. Funny, because all these are the reasons why I finally bought a Mac…

he’s a retard. all pc users vainly cling to those points, i.e. parallel port, serial port needs to be there in case… in case of what I may ask? i’m glad they don’t make anything that plugs into those anymore. They were a b***h to configure to get them to work right, and even then you had to pray to something on the hopes that it would work.

However, after playing the game GTR, the 12″ g4 powerbook that was on my wish list sadly has to leave as I have to get a PC that will play this game
