bunch of wankers….2+ years since the last one, and they still get it all wrong. The space walk was cool, but the fact that a piece of foam actually went boink is pretty bad. I loved the space shuttle. I saw the 2nd ever launch in person when I was but a wee lad….

we had a bit of discussion after last launch, about the fact that after the accident they introduced more strict rules for the security, and then to have a launch at any cost, they just bypassed it… maybe is just that those ships are bit too old, with bunch of updates and many missions on their shoulders.

i agree that they are a bit old, and should have been replaced about 10 years ago with a new craft, but the problems on the two disasters have not been with the space craft itself, but with the rockets and boosters. I think they’ve established that falling foam damaged the heat shields big time last time, and still there were pieces of foam falling during this launch.
NASA is overall in a bit of trouble budget wise, and for the first time in a very long time, having a job at NASA is no longer a sweet deal where you can’t be pink-slipped. They need some good results, and they haven’t been getting them esp. when they are competing with wars and military budget requests. They soooo badly need this shuttle mission to work out.

damn, I missed it… I followed until the first bank to the left, and then I had a meeting ’til now
anyway, I’m really happy for them (can you imagine, being on the Shuttle’s lower deck praying that everything will go right while you’re coming down at 17000 miles per hour?)
