Have blog or be no one
Once, you could have said the same for a domain, www.memyselfandI.com… you wouldn’t dare to be left out. I admit, I have one, with the attached email address, that looks so cool but that nobody manages to remember, since everybody’s used to @hotmail, @gmail, @yahoo…
But now things are different. After the dotcom era, here it comes the blogema, blogger phenomena, the web log wannahave. Our lifes on the net. It is interesting? who cares, I have one!
And even Albazilla, little by little, became a blog. Of course, with multiple authors which can decorate the web through the embedded gallery, make the forum grow, and fertilize the wiki.
But what if you want YOUR own? Well, there’re several options…
First, you can take part of a blogging community and have your space. Blogger.com and Wordpress.com are two of the most famous (and Albazilla is using the same engine of this second one). This is great if you don’t want to spend much time in designing your layout or customizing the pages, or if you really don’t know what a scripting language is.
In case, instead, you want to ‘make your hands dirty’, you can try out Wordpress. Others will give you names like Movable Type, TypePad, and stuff, but nothing is easier to install, set-up, mantain and plug-in than Wordpress (moreover, it’s free!). But if you really want to experience something ‘in development’ and test your skills, you can try out Jaws and Typo. Both using modules to configure your page’s layout (instead of typing code like in Wordpress), but the second one relying on RubyOnRails (what the ?!?! too long to explain here). This means being lightining faster than php, but requiring a hosting which would have it installed and supported.
I’m personally checking out all these options, for a brand new Albazilla (who knows?) one day…
