Poll: Turkey in EU?

mumblings

After all the blabbing about what’s happening for 3 cartoons on a Danish newspaper… let’s get close to our European affairs: are you or not in favour of Turkey for entering in EU?

Talking for myself, I can’t consider this a good thing. It’s way too early, and European union is too young. We’re still trying to absorb all the Eastern European countries (Czech Rep., Poland, ecc.) which are still considered B-series EU citizens in too many states (in NL and France, for instance, they can’t freely work yet). In the case of Turkey, we should face a completely different culture, and a governement where religion is tied up with politics. This looks to me only a way to expand our saturated markets… what if every Turks will get a Vodafone or T-mobile cell phone?

  1. Peter Says:

I say no! Turks have been colonising Europe for 400years during the Ottoman Empire, and now the wat to do it all over again. 5% of Germany’s population is already Turkish! It’s too big, too poor, and too uncivilised (and not even in europe) to become a member.
    I say let’s have Albania first (y)

  2. Alberto Says:

I agree on Albania! ) although, I don’t consider Turkish uncivilized, only differently civilized…

  3. pio & vittoria Says:

We vote no, not for now al least!
We do agree with Alberto, first on the point that the EU badly needs strenghtening among the associated states the feeling of unity through constant evaluation of the extent of basic values and perspectives shared, while recognizing each state to the others the same and equal rights. Secondly we believe that the process of association of new states requires a preliminary proved certainty that their legislations, practiced rules and values match the
    E U ones.
Besides we would like to express how discomforting it was when walking along the main street of Nicosia - in the Greek area - we found an established barrier with Turkisk soldiers pointing arms at us. A long way of diplomacy work and good hope has to go on.
