It’s getting crowded

wandering

Saturday, 25th of February 2006, 12.16 GMT: a date to remember for the inhabitants of planet Earth, since at that moment we will be 6.5 billion people on its surface. These are the forecasts of the US Census Bureau, which is constantly monitoring US and World’s population. The estimate takes in account births and deaths, and, of course, can’t be extremely correct, due to the difficulties in calculating the variations on a global scale.
But still, now we can understand why it’s so difficult to find a parking spot still free…

I remember the moment we had 6e9 people, it was about 8 years ago.
Can it really go this quickly? That means the time constant is about 100years!

And what about genes’ shaking-mixing? I have the impression that I’ve already seen many faces around… of people I don’t know! Are we really everytime different? so many differences in so many people are possible? or we’re only cloning ourself in some measure?

    (ok, I admit this is pure sci-fi… :s )
