Tacos d’America (part 1)
“…what am I gonna eat tonight?”
With this simple question Emanuele brings us in a different world, the one of the American supermarket… as seen from the eyes (and phone camera) of someone used to buy fresh vegetables in the market and eggs from the farmer.
(no, aubergines don’t grow inside plastic bags…).

…what am I gonna eat tonight????
Easy answer, I’ll go to do my groceries and I’ll try to find something fresh and healthy that I like… something like a fruit market, a butchery, a bakery or maybe one of those old little town’s drug store, where it’s possible to find some products from the farm, good healthy meat, fresh eggs, butter, milk… do you know what I mean, right? Nothing, here you can’t find them, so I’ll go to the PathMark, the supermarket behind the corner (well, if you have a car!).
And here it is, fresher than ever: in practice it’s a freezer!
In US there’s a low which prohibits to sell product too high in fat, otherwise one becomes obese, so every single thing is no fat, fat free, etc… In practice, if they would stop one with some lardo di colonnata (the fat of the bacon, Italian delicatessen) one would risk the jail! They didn’t understand anything, with all the junk they have here… anyway, I thought I can have some milk for breakfast:
…mmmh, this tastes like water diluted in the milk! I don’t know your breakfast habits, but going to the specific breakfast department here:
What do you think about? Everything’s frozen here, or what about bacon & eggs (so original):
or better:
Tyson frozen cornish hens? frozen sausage? and luckily this is the good way to start the day! Tsk, Americans… But this is a culture of wellness fanatics, they absolutely can’t get fat, no way! Luckily, a bit further we can find the most visited department: Chips & Snacks.
If one only would try to imagine some food, one would have hard time… there’s also an entire department where you would find some nice bbq sauces, essentials to taste steak on the grill (always if you find one…). Moreover all this stuff is typical Italian… Typical typical! What do they mean for typical?!?!
And to wrap up: the Modena balsamic vinegar, with three cheeses aroma… but how do they dare! Say cheese…
