This is Vista! what is Vista?
Second part of the tale, other side of the moon, bitter taste of the cookie, in 10 lines the most reasonably reasons to avoid the new Vista OS from Microsoft…
1) The licence. You can only pass it once to a new computer, which means a new machine or hardware (try to upgrade your graphic card twice).
2) Too many versions to choose from. Business, Small Business, Enterprise, Home Premium, Home Basic, Ultimate, Starter. And where’s the vegetarian one? and the fat-free? and if in the future I’ll change the usage of my computer?
3) 240 euro for the retail version. You’ll find it installed on the new computers, but still Linux = free and Mac OS X = 129 euro.
4) No real new feature. Sidebar, widgets, interface. This took them all these years? and where is the WinFS new file system? no, this Vista still runs on NTFS (1980?).
5) System requirements. 2Gb of RAM and Dx9 GPU. My Linux box runs on a Pentium II with 128 Mb of RAM… with all the graphic effects enabled.
6) Safety. You definitely want to wait for the first Service Pack before connecting it to the internet…
7) Laptop battery. See system requirements. Do you think you can work for 2 hrs. with such a resource drayining OS? and this is before opening Photoshop…
8) Proprietary source code. Again.
9) Useless stuff. 3D desktop (how did we make it so far without?) and the online sharing of pictures? and the search engine? we can already do all this for free (240 euro saved).
10) DRM. Digital right management. Big brother IN your computer. Degradation of image quality if your monitor is not DRM compliant.
Think about it… and the comment session is open!
