Albazilla’s Legacy
One of my biggest regrets is that I’ve never kept an off-line copy of the first ‘Albazilla’ ever. Yes, I’m quite a lucky guy if this is one of my biggest regrets, but still, I could have thought about it, couldn’t I?
I mean, that was my first creature down in august 2000, when the web was still primordial and I didn’t have a clue what it would have meant to share your life with the people you love even if they’re far away…
So, no traces of it? well, maybe someone is out there collecting memorabilia of all the pages that composed this web since the beginning.
I was browsing the Internet Archive Wayback Machine and typing ‘albazilla.com’ I shed few tears: the original pages of the first version are cached there! Some images/logos are missing, and the formatting is a bit twisted, but the essence has been preserved.
I counted 7 different versions! And actually the last one is quite recent, not more than a couple of years… From the first Albazilla, which was just a collection of links I was finding cool to share at that time, to the birth of the blog, until the community of today. The links of Albazilla 1.0 are still active through the cached version in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, so check them out and let the first Albazilla still pulse in the web
